Frequently asked Playoff question

We are constantly asked how playoffs are determined in league.

Below is an excerpt taken from an email between Dave O’Brien and myself a few months back explaining our playoff format. Now there are too many scenarios to list all of them here, but these are the most common and should help clarify for most on how playoff’s are scheduled.

Scenario 1

If Team A wins first Half, Team B finishes 2^nd, Team C finishes 3^rd and Team D finishes 4^th.

Second half winner is Team B, followed by Team C, Team D and then Team A

1^st Half Winners		2^nd Half Winners	Position Playing For
1^st Place – Team A	Vs	1^st Place – Team B	1^st and 2^nd
2^nd Place – Team B		2^nd Place – Team C	Team C takes 3^rd
3^rd Place – Team C		3^rd Place – Team D
4^th Place – Team D		4^th Place – Team A

Team A and B play off for 1^st and 2^nd

Team C takes 3^rd automatically because…

- Team B won a higher position the 2^nd half and is removed from 3^rd Place playoff since they are playing for 1^st and 2nd

- A lower positioned team should not and can not knock a higher team out of their finishing position.

(Can not let a 3^rd place team possible beat a 2^nd place team for position)

Scenario 2

If Team A wins first Half, Team B finishes 2^nd, Team C finishes 3^rd and Team D finishes 4^th.

Second half winner is Team A, followed by Team C, Team D and then Team B

1^st Half Winners		2^nd Half Winners	Position Playing For
1^st Place – Team A		1^st Place – Team A	Team A takes 1^ST
2^nd Place – Team B	Vs	2^nd Place – Team C	2^ND and 3^rd
3^rd Place – Team C		3^rd Place – Team D
4^th Place – Team D		4^th Place – Team B

Team A automatically takes 1^st and Team B and C playoff for 2^nd and 3^rd.

Scenario 3

If Team A wins first Half, Team B finishes 2^nd, Team C finishes 3^rd and Team D finishes 4^th.

Second half winner is Team A, followed by Team B, Team D and then Team C

1^st Half Winners		2^nd Half Winners	Position Playing For
1^st Place – Team A		1^st Place – Team A	Team A takes 1^ST
2^nd Place – Team B		2^nd Place – Team B	Team B takes 2^ND
3^rd Place – Team C	Vs	3^rd Place – Team D	3^RD
4^th Place – Team D		4^th Place – Team C

Team A and B automatically won their positions, So Team C and D play off for 3rd
